When an Area* or Street Name is selected the House Number and HouseName are filtered to show records that match, however, you can leave the Street Name blank and use HouseName independently.
Street Name & House Name lists are drawn from of all Addresses in the stored directories; due to the file size, a letter should be selected to filter Street Names from this list.
House Name are normally filtered by the selected Street Name, however, if they are used on their own, a drop-down letter should be selected to reduce the size of the list.
Entering a Directory Year or Years will filter the results by the selected year(s)
Street Name, House Number and HouseName are straightforward. Area represents address items that appear in the directories which range from hamlet to village to suburb to areas of the inner city. Some entries also contain towns outside Bath - e.g. Bath, Bristol, Chippenham - these are stored in Area.
Examples: Dyrham often appears as part of Chippenham, Wick occasionally appears as part of Bristol.
Most addresses entries don't give an area, if using a street name just enter that without the area and many more records will appear.
Under the list of Areas starting with B you will also find Bath, selecting this will show those entries that specify the city - these are small in number as they are Bath Directories and usually entries do not show the name of the city.
